Social responsibility is an institutional necessity for INTERAMERICAN
Friday 11 December 2009

During this trying period for insurance companies’ credibility, accountability, such as that of INTERAMERICAN, is imperative for the market; the company’s first Corporate Social Responsibility Review highlighted the framework of responsible conduct that must govern an organization, as well as the pioneering stance the company adopted in regard to this issue in the insurance sector.

Apart from expressing its good intentions, INTERAMERICAN was rated among top companies in this year’s ranking, according to Accountability Rating Greece, being the 23rd in a total of the 100 major companies evaluated and achieving a score of 32.2%.

Company top indices appear in the fields of corporate administration & management (41%) as well as strategy (38%). Accountability Rating takes into account four main, equally important fields when assessing companies: apart from the two fields mentioned above, cooperation with interested parties and performance - the methodology adopted is aligned with AA 1000 certification and dialogue standards - as well as compliance with the ten ecumenical principles of the UN Global Compact. INTERAMERICAN’s rank, as compared to its rating in 2008, has greatly improved (last year: 46th position with a score of 12.9).

Moreover, the company was assessed for the publication of the Social Responsibility Review by the Department of Environment of the University of the Aegean. The assessment, based on the successful application of international reference standard for EKE GRI – G3 (119 indices of the Global Reporting Initiative), gave the INTERAMERICAN CSR Review a score of 36%, ranking it 8th among the 24 Corporate Reviews assessed. INTERAMERICAN’s accountability report received a high rating in regard to profile, Review parameterization and corporate administration.
Referring to these results, Mr. Y. Roundos, Director of Public Relations & Corporate Social Responsibility of the company, made the following statement: “Control and continuous evaluation of INTERAMERICAN’s conduct serve as the basis for improving its corporate responsibility in every activity undertaken, vis-à-vis all interested parties. Actually, accountability publicly binds INTERAMERICAN and serves transparency, responding to the interest in dialogue with all individuals related with the company”.
